CRITICIZES TO THECNETOS BY DANIEL

At the risk of becoming enemies with Luis Arbaiza, author of Thecnetos, I will say that the printed edition does not do justice to his novel. Margins out of place, impossible misprints, paper more that cheap, the ugliest front page up to inmisericorde … A pirated edition would have remained more presentable. Finally, the lack of a Copy editing is more than evident, which suffers the reading of some paragraphs of the novel (fews, happily).

But once avoided these obstacles, when one accedes to the text, it is not possible to stop thinking about the tremendous repercussion that it would have obtained Thecnetos of having been published in another context. And it is that we are before one of these novels that mark a milestone in the panorama of the science fiction understood as genre and as literature of ideas.


For that there is no Thecnetos's page that is not full of ideas, ideas that question so much our vision of what is the physical universe as that of the properly human universe. Thecnetos is a reflection concerning topics as the end of the matter and of the time, the differences and similarities between natural and artificial things, the existence of universes inside universes, the progression and the limits to the knowledge and to the human experience; and with regard to what in last instance motivates the human beings to continuing existing, already it is the search of knowledge, of being able or of love. It is necessary to emphasize that the love receives in Thecnetos an original treatment, which safely it might untie the feminine furies: in the imagined future (or foreseen?) In Thecnetos, when the same time begins to get dark (yes, Luis Arbaiza handles a very poetical prose), the humanity has decided to do without the chromosome X. On there having had been achieved an infallible system that guarantees the human reproduction without the risks that the maternity transports, the uteruses already are not necessary. We are at the time in a universe populated only by men, who share the condition to be all scientists, philosophers and ferocious warriors, very similar to the Spartans of 300, one males' world which affective relations turn concerning the terms erastes and eromenos. Those who, for inevitable genetic atavism, only can feel love for missing feminine genre, are condemned to a bitter loneliness and to languish wishing the impossible thing. For the rest, the society in which Thecnetos's action share place is a society very started to the violence, though this violence is exercised on the basis of a few philosophical polemic enough criteria.


Besides the inevitable conflicts that are given between the corporations, the economic - social units in which the human company is based on Thecnetos, the latter humanity (paraphrasing Olaf Stapledon) it faces another problem. The men of the future are conscious that the universe in which his stock pass is coming to his west. It is not a question of the end of a world, or of a system, or of a galaxy, but of the entire Universe. The particular philosophy developed during milleniums serves them to take up office with dignity (and something of nonchalance) this end, since, in conformity with his way of thinking, the existence does not have as what being superior to not existence, and therefore, to exist or not to exist are conditions fix quotas. Nevertheless, always there is the nonconformist one, in this case, a technician who postulates the possibility of a dimension escaping from our moribund universe to placed other one more above. The form in which there might be realized the above mentioned leak and the transformation that would take place in the human structure (body and mind) us reveals to an author who manages to her broad ones both in biological sciences and in the mathematics and the philosophy, providing this way to the novel of an unusual, and sometimes chilling vision of the universe. Against the manifest apathy of most of the humanity, resources are destined for the investigation of this offer of survival.



Parallel to this temporary period in which the humanity canalizes all his efforts for the survival, we are narrated another temporary period (or atemporal) in that we are privileged witnesses of the impossible relation between an inscrutable emissary of the end of the time - an envoy of the Thecnetos, the final appliance that includes all the experience of the universe, out of the time and of the space - and a Last disconcerted Man of the Universe, who in addition owes his existence to the fact of having being revived without another apparent intention that is not to stroll on a vast plain without purpose - to the universe of the future cannot assume another color that the grey and his gradations-, as(according to) arranged by the Thecnetos and his envoy. Why it has returned to an empty existence, in a universe that has stopped existing? The response to this one and questioning others they perform the most surprising thing, and grant an observation of hope among the inmisericordes revelations of what seems us to provide the future, according to the most recent scientific speculations.

Though both plots might seem to be independent or scarcely related, towards the end the link is revealed between both, provoking in the reader the reflection with regard to if the purpose and the beginning of the universe have his origin in the same desperate search of that one that complements us.
